Review on CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 AM4 BOX

There is not much history of the Ryzen 3000 family of processors. In 2019, AMD introduced the world’s first 7 nm processors at the annual Computex 2019 exhibition. This series is powered by Zen 2 chip design and manufacturing technology, which is about 15% faster than the previous generation. One of the distinguishing features of the “stones” of the 3rd generation, again in comparison with Ryzen 2000, is the increased cache memory. The younger model of today’s presented Ryzen 3000 line is the 6-cores / 12-threads model Ryzen 5 3600. We will talk about it in this review, namely the “boxed” version.

The processor model is well packed in a small box. On the one hand, through a special “window” the processor itself is visible, or rather its front part, on the other, a photograph of the cooler. The chance to get the goods damaged is close to zero. That is why I recommend the “boxed” versions, the difference in money is not large, and you get additional protection during transportation in the form of a box. A nice bonus is the presence of a cooler in the kit.

After unpacking the box, we get a user manual, a certificate, a cooler packed in a separate, black box, and the processor itself. Also included is a sticker with the logo of the company and an indication of the series.

If you start the review in increasing importance, you should talk about the “boxed” 92 mm cooler AMD Wraith Stealth manufactured by Cooler Master. Dimensions in length and width are 108 x 102 mm. It is quite enough if you leave the processor frequency at the factory level. Strict design, nothing more. The blades are tightly twisted, which contributes to an increase in air flow, and this also has a positive effect on acoustic comfort. Although it’s difficult to call it quiet, the maximum noise level reaches 30 dB. The radiator is made of aluminum. A block of wires for connection in a protective braid of black color “snake skin”. Thermal grease has already been applied to the contact pad from the factory. The backlight, as on coolers from AMD older versions, is absent. After installing on the motherboard, the AMD inscription on the cooler remains on its side, and not on the top as we would like. I think this is fixable by rearranging the fan itself on the radiator, since it is bolted and not tightly glued. Despite the budget of this cooler, it does not look cheap and in general for the first time it is more than enough.

Now let’s talk about the heart of the computer – the processor. The chip itself inside the box is in a protective plastic container. Damaging the paws, even if accidentally dropped to the floor, is almost impossible. The 6th nuclear processor operates at a nominal frequency of 3.6 GHz and with a turbo of 4.2 GHz on 12 threads. For those to whom the declared frequencies are few, there is always the opportunity to do overclocking. But, while it was said earlier, it is best to replace the boxed cooler with something more serious.

Typically, for testing processors in reviews, special utilities / programs are used, with which they receive various data and a lot of digits when the chip is running. However, for the average user, in my subjective opinion, what “stone” is capable of when processing data in games is important. And in general, is it capable of revealing all the inherent potential in a particular video card.In my example, a video card from the GeForce 1660 and not even the Ti version will work together with the processor from Ryzen 5 3600. We will check what minimum and maximum fps we get. For testing, I picked up a number of popular games to date, namely: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Forza Horizon 4, Battlefield V, Far Cry New Dawn, Metro Exodus. As for the settings of the games, they will be set to the level – ultra with a resolution of 1080p. And since the truth is known in comparison, we will compare with the processor from competitors i7-8700K all the same video card from the GeForce 1660.

The first Assassin’s Creed Odyssey test of the year 2018 game on the “engine” Anvil engine. Quite demanding on the hardware, but even on ultra-settings it can be played on the tested processors. FPS, as can be seen from the graph, does not drop less than 39 frames.

Further, the picture is somewhat better in terms of the number of frames, despite the fact that the next MetroExodus game is the new of 2019 on the no less demanding 4A Engine. Here fps did not fall already less than 41 frames.

An interesting first-person shooter of Battlefield V of 2018 on the “engine” Frostbite pleased with high FPS. He did not fall less than 82 and 83 frames, respectively.

Forza Horizon 4, which has been loved by many on the ForzaTech engine, also showed high FPS of about 78 and 79 frames, respectively.Well, the last Far Cry New Dawn on the Dunia Engine v2 engine showed quite a “playable” FPS of 76 frames.

Summing up the processor, the i7-8700K produces a smoother picture due to more FPS. However, it is difficult not to notice that the difference is so insignificant that it can be neglected. Nevertheless, I personally give my vote to Ryzen5 3600. With almost the same performance, this processor costs significantly less money.
