Review on External HDD Toshiba Canvio Advance 2.5″ 2.0TB USB 3.0 BLUE
3 min readEvery day the amount of information is growing like a snowball. I deliberately do not use complex terms such as “geometric or arithmetic progression”. Information doubles every two years in the world. Even our modest requests are no longer satisfied with 1 TB drives. They can no longer fit our media files. After conducting a small statistical analysis on the reliability and durability of external hard drives, I came to the conclusion (from my own experience of owning several external hard drives in our family) that TOSHIBA became the winner. Several disks have been working for many years under serious load (one as a storage medium, which every day has to be updated at work, the other as a mini-server, the third in a child for cartoons). I purchased two TOSHIBA Canvio Advance and Basic 2.5″ external hard drives 2.0TB in online store. Looking ahead, I note that I did not notice the difference in speed and responsiveness. It is visible only in specific test programs that analyze these glands.
Dimensions of an external hard drive of 2.0Tb. 78 x 109 x 14 mm. This version weighs 149 grams. Available in four colors: black, white, red and blue. Connection is via USB 3.0. Power passes through the USB bus. No additional cables are required. It connects to the players calmly. Power is enough when connected to smart TV.
Included with the disc, the manufacturer put a pile of paper instructions (which hardly anyone needs) and a short connecting cable. The case design is concise and strict. The indicator lamp is visible, but does not work like a flashlight. Grieving for the lack of rubber feet on the bottom surface, which would prevent slipping on smooth surfaces. Plastic looks quite reliable. It is not glossy and does not collect fingerprints.
As for heating the case during operation, it is minimal. The temperature did not rise above 34 degrees Celsius. Wakes up after a period of inactivity quickly (1-2 seconds maximum). Rotational speed 5400 rpm. Vibration of the body is negligible.
Access time was measured using the HD Tune Pro program – 18.2 ns. Read speed in the ATTO Disk Benchmark test program is 200 MB/s. A good result, but this is in the most favorable conditions. The speed of recording information obtained at the level of 168 MB/s. The CrystalDiskMark test program gave similar and slightly different test results.
Copying information (a large file) using a regular Windows 10 Explorer is 125 MB/s.
The disk is formatted in NTFS standard. It is read by most computers, laptops and players. As for connecting an external drive via USB hubs, they should be equipped with an additional power connector. It may be enough, but this is not guaranteed by the manufacturer. Maximum speed and reading are possible only when connected to a USB 3.0 port (blue). If we connect to USB 2.0 (white), then speed performance is reduced.

The manufacturer offers four rich colors to choose from for the consumer. Plus, we get software support for the long term. This model has been awarded the prestigious Cost Effective Award. It was checked by me in operation, therefore for myself I chose this disk.
