Review on Gigabyte X570 UD Motherboard (AM4, ATX)

Motherboards on the current X570 chipset are relatively expensive now. Many users simply replace the AMD Ryzen processors with the third generation, while continuing to use the old platform, for example, based on the B450. But they are deprived of all the advantages of top models, in particular, the increased throughput of the PCI-Express 4.0 bus. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase X570 motherboards when switching from Intel to AMD systems or assemblies from scratch.

The most budget option at the moment is the Gigabyte X570 UD (AM4, ATX). It will be interesting to those who do not need additional illumination, and who have additional expansion devices for transmitting video and sound. The manufacturer saved on the rear panel interfaces and RGB illumination.

Unpacking

The package is made in standard Gigabyte colors, which shows important features of the backplane: PCIe 4.0, Smart Fan 5, Fan Stop, 10 + 2 phases of power, support for LED strips, BIOS flashing without turning on the computer with Q-Flash Plus technology. This set of functions is quite enough for such a price.

The motherboard is packaged in an antistatic bag. Instead of a factory seal, we tear off adhesive tape, which shows that the goods have not yet been opened.

We find the following accessories in the box: software disc, user manual, installation guide, two SATA cables and a rear cover:

Despite the low price niche, the printed circuit board has an original brown color with a high-quality elemental base, there is nothing to complain about:

Cheapness manifests itself if you look at the device from the side: we find several USB ports, a universal mouse and keyboard connector, a local area network, HDMi output, a Q-Flash button and three analog audio interfaces. I would like to have an additional video output Display Port and digital sound.

A distinctive feature of all motherboards with the X570 logic set is the presence of a fan for cooling the “hot” chipset to provide support for 16-cores AMD Ryzen processors:

Assembly

The kit did not have a soft backing for easy assembly, so take it from the previous flagship model Z170:

To install the CPU, we raise the bounding rod, find the corresponding pointers on the socket and processor, and perform the installation.

There is a backplate on the back of the motherboard, so the cooler should stand up without any additional devices.

It can be seen that the cooler overlaps the first slot of the RAM, so we stick two DDR4 strips into the second and fourth cells to activate the two-channel mode.

By the way, the Gigabyte X570 UD platform is designed for RAM modules with a frequency of up to 4000 MHz in OS mode.

We stick the longest 24-pin ATX connector for powering the motherboard:

I had to tinker with connecting a thick USB 3.0 cable from the front panel of the case: its connector is located close to the power supply box:

The SATA cable from the disk drive is connected without any problems through the curtain in the case:

Most X570 boards have an enhanced PCI-Express 4.0 slot. Ours is not an exception, despite the low cost:

Video cards now have large dimensions, so you need to carefully approach the process of installing them. Most of them require additional nutrition. There are enough PCI slots for other expansion cards, such as sound or Wi-Fi. They are desirable, since this configuration does not include the most efficient Realtek ALC887 audio codec , and there are no wireless interfaces at all. Enough space for everything:

Software

Online forums are full of reports that the third-generation AMD Ryzen processors do not reach the stated frequencies in Turbo mode. Therefore, motherboard manufacturers released BIOS updates with the AGESA 1.0.0.4 B libraries. The @BIOS utility included with APP Center is one way to upgrade the firmware:

APP Center allows you to install programs for overclocking and monitoring components (the download link is indicated earlier). We are interested in the latter, which is called the System Information View. With its help, all fans are easily calibrated, their location in the case is determined, and a curve of the dependence of the number of revolutions on temperature is built:

The power structure of the heroine of our review was very successful: during the execution of heavy applications, such as games in Ultra HD resolution, the temperature of the PCH diode did not rise above 65 °C, and that of the system – 45 °C.

The Game Boost application activates the productive computer mode. This is easier than changing the power features in Windows every time.
