Review on FUJIFILM XF10 Black Digital Camera

Hello everybody! The hero of today’s review will be a digital camera. No, not a SLR. This is a compact camera. Yes, this is a very small compact, but with a large sensor. When I ordered the camera in an online store, it didn’t seem so small to me. Apparently, it’s time to recall the beautiful Russian proverb. That’s right, the spool is small, but expensive. So, I present to you the Fujifilm XF10.

Indeed, this device cannot be called cheap. Tell me, why should it be cheap? This is a fairly new model with a high quality picture. In addition, the camera has simply chic functionality, which is inherent only to very advanced mirrorless cameras. Somewhere on the pages of the vast expanse of the Internet, I came across the saying that the XF10 is the next evolutionary step of the X70. Well, look, see.

The body of our camera is made of metal. It has black plastic inserts. To say that the design of the camera in an amazing way echoes the cameras of “those distant years” means to say nothing. Once again you are convinced that everything new is well forgotten old. Apparently for this reason it is now in retro fashion.

The XF10 boasts not only an attractive design, but also a full range of manual settings, an excellent APS-C (Advanced Photo System Type-C) matrix with a resolution of 24 megapixels, a lens with a focal length of 18.5 mm and aperture f / 2.8, an elegant three-inch touch screen by 1040000 points. Yes, with such characteristics, the XF10 is simply no price. Sorry for the pun. That’s what money is paid for.

To have a better idea of the device, it’s time to look into the box, designed surprisingly strictly. I would say ascetic. There is nothing superfluous on the black box, only the manufacturer and model name. Just some kind of minimalism. When you see this box, you involuntarily recall a black box from the television quiz “What? Where? When?”.

I read a lot of good things about the camera on the Internet. Is she so gorgeous as they say? Are you eager to find out?

I open the box and look inside. Yes, the equipment is good. And everything is packed neatly. I spread the contents on the table, carefully remove the “carcass” of the camera. And then everything else.

A lens cap is included to protect the lens. Pay attention, she is with a rope. Whether she is needed is, of course, a moot point. Personally, I am for it. How many caps are lost for a trifle reason, the lack of a rope.

For convenient and safe carrying the camera on your hand, there is a wrist strap. True, as it turned out, it is possible to hold the XF10 securely in your hand with the help of a small handle on the front side, smoothly flowing into the ledge from the side of the display. This is great, but I would have been more comfortable with carrying a case or carrying case. Although, due to such small size and weight, there should not be any problems with carrying the camera at all. In extreme cases, there are pockets.

Let’s continue. The camera is equipped with a charger with a universal power plug and a removable USB A– microUSB cable, which, if necessary, can be used as a data cable for communication with a computer.

The small size of the digital camera also implies a compact placement of the battery and memory card in it. As you can see, there is a combined slot with a lid on the bottom for this.

The interface compartment is on the right side. It also closes with a lid, under which it is not difficult to see.

A 3.5 mm jack for connecting a microphone or a wired remote control, a micro HDMI output connector and a micro USB connector, which is also used to recharge the battery of a digital camera using a charger or an external battery (Power Bank). This is in case if it is not possible to use a standard charger.

To control the settings on the case, there are three dial switches. The largest of them is the shooting mode selection dial. One of the remaining ones (the one that is closer to the frontal plane) is combined with the shutter button. In addition, there are several buttons on the case. Some of them can be programmed, for example “Fn”.

Part of the settings is placed on the focus ring located on the lens.

If you leave the standard settings, then, in addition to manual focusing, the ring will give you the opportunity to choose story programs and effect filters. True, if you want, you can change something (reprogram the functions). Well, for example, new functions will be the adjustment of photosensitivity and film profile or white balance. And you can program the ring and digitally.

But if we talk about the possibility of changing the settings of the controls, we should not forget about the inconspicuous and nameless button in the upper right corner of the camera, located above the “Q” button. Yes, it can also be customized. Moreover, almost any function. And by default, when you click it, you can view the picture in full resolution.

Talk about the display. Or rather, the touch screen, by the way, behaves perfectly both on a bright sunny day and on a cloudy evening. But part of the adjustments can be made with its help. With an ordinary touch of the screen, you can select the focus area or change the autofocus mode to manual, or you can scroll through and scale the captured photos. The screen displays all the necessary information. To the place will say that it is located very conveniently.

I like that the XF10 has a mini-joystick located under the thumb of the right hand. Previously, it was associated only with very expensive and sophisticated (advanced) mirrorless cameras from FUJIFILM. And now in the XF10, he has also become part of the management. They can choose a direct focus point.

A little more about autofocus. He’s fast, but alas … not enough. And if you prefer to shoot reportage photos on the streets, then insufficiently fast autofocus is partially compensated by the preliminary focusing mode.

Now a little about where to start. When working with an unfamiliar camera, the most correct is to start with auto mode. All parameters in this case are set automatically. The algorithm of its work is simple: analyze, recognize the scene being shot, and select the optimal settings. FUJIFilm XF10 does it well.

It is unfortunate that the manufacturer endowed the XF10 with such a set of great features and deprived it of a rotary display similar to the one on the X70. I think it would be very useful to have such a twist.
