Good afternoon! Introducing a review of the Western Digital My Passport 2.5″ 4.0TB USB 3.0 WDBUAX0040BBL-EEUE Blue Hard Drive.
General description and equipment
The model has several color options. This color was chosen. The rest were either not interested (yellow, white), or they were not available. There are still slightly more expensive models in the same case in black and red. There is still an orange disk, but at the moment there is no such color on 4.0TB.
The disk is packed in a cardboard box. The box is compact, slightly larger than the disk itself. Inside the box is a transparent plastic case with a disk, a USB wire and a guide for technical support and a limited warranty in different languages.
The disc also has a protective film on all sides.
The USB cable is approximately 45 cm long. Not long and not short. The wire is not very thick, it bends well. The connector is standard for external drives, on the other hand – standard USB.
A plastic case is quite possible to use as additional protection when carrying a disc. The two parts, although not soldered together, are firmly inserted into each other. The disk does not hang in them, besides there is a recess for the wire inside.
Further photos of the disc itself without a protective film. The front side is divided into two parts: glossy with the emblem of the manufacturer and matte corrugated.
The underside is also divided into two parts. At the corners there are small rubber feet measuring 3x3x0.5 mm.
On one of the ribs there is a single connector: for connecting a USB cable.
On the same edge on the right there is a flat LED. It does not burn very brightly. The room in the dark will not light up, but this is not required of him. And as a signaling device for disk operations, he, in my opinion, is ideal.
The disk was purchased by me for use as an archive. In the process of transferring data to it, he warmed up very slightly.
The vibration is minimal: if you put your hand on it, it feels a little, but if you use it on the table next to the mouse, for example, I don’t feel the vibration at all.
Initially, programs for Windows and MacOS were recorded on the disk: there are brief instructions, there are WD Discovery, WD Backup, WD Drive Utilities programs. I could not try these utilities in action, because I use Linux. I connected the drive to third-party Windows computers. He decided and earned it without any problems.
The disk is formatted in the ntfs file system, so it will work practically everywhere. But it can not be read on devices that do not understand the gpt partition table (for example, all sorts of MFPs and TVs).
Do not forget that if you connect the drive through USB extension cords, this can also affect the speed (decrease it), if the extension cords cannot support high speeds.
Also the receiving or giving disk is affected. If the other drive has low speeds, then the overall speed will be small.
In general, I liked the disc. I use it a couple of weeks. The speed is good. Light weight. Convenient to carry. I have been using the products of this company (Western Digital) for a long time. So far, there have been only various 2.5 “and 3.5” internal drives. Now the external has appeared. Hope it lasts a long time. Not for nothing that the manufacturer gives a guarantee of 3 years.
